EMC testing of mobile communications platforms

Project Aim
There is currently no commercially available test equipment for measuring EMC with the required sensitivity and resolution to evaluate these subtle internal component interactions. The aim of this project is fill this gap in the market by developing a new class of high sensitivity and high resolution EMC test equipment.
Inspiration for the projects
Most mobile communication platforms are integrated devices, containing a camera, an MP3 players etc. The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) of all of these components with the antenna affects the antenna performance. This is currently a critical design issue for manufacturers of mobile communication platforms.
Commercial Potential and Further Development
The Partnership Grant has enabled an independent market research of the technology including the market needs, potential market size/segmentation as well as the impact of any possible regulatory change.
The next stage of the research will focus on refining the existing laboratory prototype to meet industry standard and developing software package. Subject to follow up funding from ICUK, a full commercial prototype will be produced which should then lead to full commercialisation of the technology.
