Projects Profile
Project Title
Improved colour filter arrays for digital cameras
Partnership
Dr. Pengwei Hao from Queen Mary, University of London,
Prof. Chao Zhang from Peking University
Project Aim
The project aims to carry out a specific market evaluation to define the market needs and to develop a software-based prototype. The prototype will be tested against leading CFA products on the market.
Inspiration for the projects
Current Colour Filter Array (CFA) technology in digital camera which defines the way digital cameras receive optical information does not always give satisfied performance, and there is a need for an improved CFA technology especially for the higher end of the market. Dr. Hao at QM has developed a novel CFA technology, which has been demonstrated through computer simulation that the new approach offer much improved image quality comparing to exiting products.
Commercial Potential and Further Development
The output of the project will enable the commercialisation of the novel CFA design and demosacking technology jointly developed by QMUL and Peking University. If successful, the technology will be ready for licensing at the end of the project.
